What is queen supayalat?

Queen Supayalat was the last queen of Burma (now known as Myanmar) and the chief queen of King Thibaw, who ruled from 1878 to 1885. She was born in 1859 as Supayalat Maung Maung.

Queen Supayalat was known for her strong influence over her husband and for being actively involved in political affairs during her reign. She played a key role in the court and was described as power-hungry and ruthless. She was known for her involvement in the court intrigues, which ultimately led to the downfall of the Burmese monarchy.

After the British ultimately defeated King Thibaw in the Third Anglo-Burmese War in 1885, Queen Supayalat was exiled to India along with the rest of the royal family. She spent the rest of her life in exile, first in India and later in Ratnagiri, a remote town in present-day Maharashtra.

Queen Supayalat died in 1925 in Ratnagiri, India. She was never able to return to Burma and lived out the rest of her life in obscurity. Today, she is remembered as the last queen of Burma and for her role in the history of Myanmar.
